Exhibition “Gastronomia – Gastrognosia 2008”

The Mediterranean Culinary competitions was successfully, held at the Cyprus State fair in Nicosia, from the 7th to 10th of February 2008. Visitors had the opportunity to get informed about food, drinks, and hotel equipment. They also enjoyed and tasted varieties of new products and of course became impressed from the high standards of the competitions, in which students of Technical schools, of colleges and professionals participated.

The most famous competitions were “The Young Chef of the year”, “Chef of the year” and “Pastry Chef of the year”

The “Young Chef of the year” price was won by Mr Andreas Andreou, who is a chef at “Mondo” restaurant and student of Culinary Arts at Intercollege.

“Chef of the year” was gone to Mr Nicos Nicolaou, who works at “Sodexho”

“Pastry Chef of the year price was won by Mr Dimitris Sakampetis, who works as a pastry Chef at the Intercontinental hotel.

The National Olympic Teams impressed the visitors with their presentations in cold buffet and live hot kitchen. National Olympic Teams, which took part in these competitions, were Malta, Romania, Czech Republic, England, Portugal and Cyprus. The overall winner who took the gold medal was the team of Czech Republic.

“Gastronomia – Gastrognosia 2008” was co-organized by the Cyprus Chefs Association, Cyprus Federation of Confectioners, Pancyprian Association of Bakers and the organizing company of Georgallis Fair and Easy systems.

The specialized Exhibition “Gastronomia – Gastrognosia 2008” presented the products of the food sector of the economy, offered the opportunity to the professionals to get to know new or already known products and companies in the food and beverage sector, with the aim of expanding their business.

The organization of the Exhibition “Gastronomia – Gastrognosia 2008” with the participation of a large number of businesses is very important for Cyprus and Hospitality industry in general. Gastronomic exhibitions promoted successfully in Cyprus and in the wider market.

The consumer in “Gastronomia – Gastrognosia 2008” has always the opportunity to try the traditional Mediterranean tastes and to be informed from the exhibitors on the great variety of foods and beverages, so that he or she is able to make the rights choices.

The Cyprus Chefs Association through the Education committee announces seminars, which have been approved and will be subsidize from the HRDA.

The seminars below are those that offered for the A΄semester of 2008

  1. “Summer salads and presentable appetizers” this seminar will be organized in Limassol from 13/03/2008 until 14/03/2008. (Limassol – Hotel Technical school) 15:00-21:30 (Thursday – Friday)
  2. “Chinese Cuisine” will take place in Nicosia from 04/04/2008 until 05/04/2008 (Intercollege-Nicosia University) 15:00-21:30 and 10: 00 – 16:30  (Friday – Saturday)

General assembly and elections of cyprus chefs association 2008

Cyprus Chefs Association has organized the rubric general assembly on Saturday 17/11/2007 at Four Seasons Hotel

The all atmosphere was ideal, due to that more than 90 members attended. At this meeting Cyprus Chefs Association has been hospitalized VIP guest.

After the delicious lunch buffet all members proceeded to the elections of the new member committee.

Global Chef of the year 2008

Andonis Charalambous a full member of the Cyprus Olympic Culinary Team, Sous Chef in the Meridien Resort Hotel and the Cyprus Chef of the year 2006, is the distinguished member of Cyprus Association who is going to represent Cyprus at the semi finals of the “Global Chef of the year”2008.The whole event will take place in Slovenia in October. The participants will be coming from all continents (7).

The competition will consist of a three-course menu in the form of a “mystery basket”. All the Chefs will be evaluated not only in cooking skills but also in terms of their knowledge related to combining wine and other beverages with the three-course menu.The whole event is under the auspices of Wacs (World Association of Chefs society).The final competition for “Global Chef of the year” will take place in Dubai 2008.

Gastronomia/Gastrognosia February 7th – 11st 2008

GASTRONOMIA–GASTROGNOSIA will be organized at the Cyprus State Fair Grounds in Nicosia from 7th – 10th February 2008.

It is organized with the collaboration of the Cyprus Chef Association, the Cyprus Federation of Confectioners, the Pancyprian Association of Bakers and the company Georgallis Fair & Easy System Ltd which is the organizing company of the exhibition the last twelve years.

The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Recourses and Environment and other organizations and associations such as Cyprus Tourism Organization, Cyprus Hotel Association, Cyprus Union of Barmen etc, which will help to the better organization and also they will organize specialized seminars for the professionals of the food and beverage sector.

May 12-15, 2008 – WACS Congress 2008

The 33rd world congress of Wacs will take place at Dubai international convection and exhibition center from 12th to 15th of may 2008.

The global chef challenge will be held during the congress between the seven senior finalist who are coming as the best chefs from their region.

The junior chef challenge will be the second top competition between twenty young chefs from twenty countries.

The black box culinary competition will be the surprise challenge between twenty five junior teams where they have to cook and present a three course menu from a mystery basket to twenty guests.
