The Mediterranean Culinary competitions was successfully, held at the Cyprus State fair in Nicosia, from the 7th to 10th of February 2008. Visitors had the opportunity to get informed about food, drinks, and hotel equipment. They also enjoyed and tasted varieties of new products and of course became impressed from the high standards of the competitions, in which students of Technical schools, of colleges and professionals participated.
The most famous competitions were “The Young Chef of the year”, “Chef of the year” and “Pastry Chef of the year”
The “Young Chef of the year” price was won by Mr Andreas Andreou, who is a chef at “Mondo” restaurant and student of Culinary Arts at Intercollege.
“Chef of the year” was gone to Mr Nicos Nicolaou, who works at “Sodexho”
“Pastry Chef of the year price was won by Mr Dimitris Sakampetis, who works as a pastry Chef at the Intercontinental hotel.
The National Olympic Teams impressed the visitors with their presentations in cold buffet and live hot kitchen. National Olympic Teams, which took part in these competitions, were Malta, Romania, Czech Republic, England, Portugal and Cyprus. The overall winner who took the gold medal was the team of Czech Republic.
“Gastronomia – Gastrognosia 2008” was co-organized by the Cyprus Chefs Association, Cyprus Federation of Confectioners, Pancyprian Association of Bakers and the organizing company of Georgallis Fair and Easy systems.
The specialized Exhibition “Gastronomia – Gastrognosia 2008” presented the products of the food sector of the economy, offered the opportunity to the professionals to get to know new or already known products and companies in the food and beverage sector, with the aim of expanding their business.
